La Tierra Mojada CUBE 2.0 Preshave Soap | Return Of A Phoenix Classic! [Petrichor]
La Tierra Mojada: The Wet Earth | Part 3
Ahhhh the alpha brainwave inducing scent that fills the air after a fresh rain, how soothing, and sensual it is, no?
Top Notes: Rain evaporating on hot, steamy, Arizona streets, Cactus, Petitgrain and White Sage
Heart Notes: Neroli, Hydrangea, Heather and Juniper
Base Notes: Geosmin, Vetiver & a touch of Patchouli.
It is commonly believed by most scientists that the reason humans connect so heavily with this scent dates back to ancient times when so much relied on a good storm to maintain the crops that ensured our survival as a species. Catharsis maybe?
La Tierra Mojada 2014
So once again another Phoenix Shaving Classic returns with a few new tweaks! This really is a throwback to 2014 for us. We originally created this scent almost as a response to our epic move into the desert it would seem! With its release La Tierra became an instant hit with the frag heads in the community.
We, like many, were sad to see it go back in 2016, but as always, we needed to make some room. Eventually, as we have seen many times before, people came out of the woodwork after it was discontinued. Turns out we were not alone in our love of the scent. 2020 once again seemed like the proper time to take a look back in hindsight.
La Tierra Mojada 2020
Honestly, not much has changed from our original scent blend to our latest aside from ratios. Imagine an old, crackling album on a turntable spinning as Fran and I flip on or off different toggles and sliders on the equalizer. To stretch that image even further, I'll say our latest take on this epic accord puts it now in stereo. Now, more finely tuned, you will find it is more well balanced; damper, earthier, more sophisticated, with sharper wet floral elements and more playful undertones of petrichor. The keyword here is clearly: More.
That's right people, fans of damp, wet, restorative petrichor scents will immediately fall in love with this one. Not only is La Tierra Mojada a stand alone scent, we also designed it to be used in combination with Mega Flora & Terra Preta!
When combined, you will suddenly find yourself deep in a damp, primeval forest, maybe on another timeline. Alone or combined La Tierra Mojada is simply enchanting!
What is Petrichor and why is it so damn sexy?
Petrichor (/ˈpɛtrɨkɔər/) is the earthy scent produced when rain falls on dry soil. The word is constructed from Greek, petra, meaning ‘stone’, + ichor, the fluid that flows in the veins of the gods in Greek mythology.
The term was coined in 1964 by two researchers, Isabel Joy Bear (Australian) and Roderick G. Thomas (British), for an article in the journal Nature. In the article, the authors describe how the smell derives from an oil exuded by certain plants during dry periods, whereupon it is absorbed by clay-based soils and rocks. During rain, the oil is released into the air along with another compound, geosmin, a metabolic by-product of certain Actinobacteria, which is emitted by wet soil, producing the distinctive scent; ozone may also be present if there is lightning. In a follow-up paper, Bear and Thomas (1965) showed that the oil retards seed germination and early plant growth. This would indicate that the plants exude the oil in order to safeguard the seeds from germination under duress.
CUBE 2.0?
CUBE - 8 ounces and 6 sides of solid otherworldliness. CUBE is not your everyday preshave. CUBE takes your shave to another dimension adding extra protection, hydration, slickness and glide. A powerhouse of slick with a kick of Banana Oil!
Why is Preshave Soap BETTER Than Preshave Oil?
Well first off, as with anything in life, it all comes down to personal preference. I can tell you why I think it's better, but in the end, do what works for you! First off, unlike using oil, a Preshave Soap will not gunk up your gear and rinses away easy.
I was seriously turned off by all the clean up involved when using oils. Plus I was always concerned about it getting into my favorite brushes undetected and going rancid. Also, applying oil with your hands then holding onto a blade is not the safest move in my book. [That said, if you currently use an oil, apply it with your non-shaver hand!] In short, Preshave Oils inspired me to find a better way!
Why a Preshave Soap is More Effective
A preshave soap really offers more bang for your buck; for one, it's more affordable and longer lasting. Use it first to clean the face before you shave, then rinse. Then reapply the soap prior to whipping up lather: First in a circular motion, then against the grain. The soap gets under the hairs, slightly propping them up, giving the blade more surface area to "bite" on to. The glycerin acts as a humectant pulling more water into the hair, prepping and softening it, thus making it a bigger target to mow down!

CUBE?
The release of CUBE has been a long time coming. For those who are privy to the PAA Universe, you may have seen CUBE hovering in the background on different labels and in ads...observing. I have read a few interpretations by folks in the forums who have noticed CUBE's appearances and have been flummoxed. What Does it Mean? [I super appreciate that folks are becoming more hip to the universe in our labels!]
What Strange Shave Tech is This?
It's great to finally bring CUBE to life for people to interface with! Holding it in your hand you can almost feel a force, an energy pulsating, drawing you in. However, all I can say at this time is, all shall be revealed in a future installment of the saga. Until then, embrace the mystery of CUBE and use it wisely!
